Girls In Technology (GIT) Program – Protégé Application 2023-2024

Girls in Technology (GIT) is led by a committee of women volunteers who are dedicated to initiating programs to excite, inspire and create awareness for girls interested in Technology.

Our vision is to significantly increase the number of girls who pursue Technology-focused education and ultimately join the ranks of other successful women in Technology careers.

Our mission is to engage and inspire girls in grades 6 through 12 in the D.C. Metro Region, especially underserved girls, to enable them to envision a path for education and career opportunities in Technology. Our programs will offer successful women role models, targeted education, endearing support and affinity. We will hold ourselves accountable to focus on GIT girls-first and foster diversity and inclusion (and belonging).

Mentor Protégé (MP) Program – 13th Year!
The Mentor Protégé (MP) Program connects girls with professional women mentors and like-minded girls for the purpose of identifying pathways to careers in Technology.  The program is for girls in grades 9 through 12 and includes five in-person 2-hour sessions.  Our sessions offer networking and mentoring opportunities while featuring guest speakers / panelists who share their experiences on topics such as Technology careers.  Sessions will be held in person at locations in Tysons Corner, VA and Rockville, MD.

GIT has traditionally offered Technology-focused scholarships for girls in grades 6 through 11, and Higher Education scholarships for girls in the 12th grade.  Scholarships are competitively awarded based on application submissions and GIT program  engagement.  Financial awards are for the pursuit of Technology-focused experiences or to further Technology-related educational opportunities.  Historically, GIT has invited two scholarship winners to attend and/or be recognized at the annual WIT Leadership Awards ceremony.  Additionally, we provide exciting swag, and high school seniors will be eligible to receive a one-year membership to WIT!
